About Metro Lighting
Metro Lighting was founded in 1993 by Lawrence Grown, and began as a restoration company for antique lighting fixtures. In time, Lawrence and his wife, Christa Rybczynski, who both hold degrees in Architecture, began using their knowledge of lighting and architectural history to create new designs, inspired and informed by Arts Nouveau and Craftsman aesthetics. Over the last 17 years, they have developed an extensive array of original, modern and historically rooted designs. Metro takes inspiration for its name from the work of early Modernist architect Hector Guimard, designer of the famous Paris Metro stations.
Our Product Line
High quality and good design are the hallmarks of Metro's lighting. Traditonal chandeliers hang alongside whimsical, sculptural pieces, most of which are fabricated in the adjacent metal shop. An exceptional collection of glass shades- locally blown, irridescent, recycled, cast, fused, and French- adorn the fixtures and allow for infinite customizing options. Custom work is welcome!
Our New Location!
In February 2010, Metro moved to its current location at 2240 San Pablo Avenue, just one block south of our previous location. Ownership of the building was the incentive, and after many months of renovations, the result is a stunning, sustainably constructed, solar-powered, 7800 square foot facility that will be Metro's home for many years to come. The showroom features Metro's own line of fixtures paired with locally blown and fused glass shades, recycled and energy efficient fixtures, and interactive displays to help visualize customizing options. The expanded metal shop allows space for larger custom projects and an opportunity for customers to see work in progress.
