About Metro Lighting

Metro Lighting & Crafts was founded in 1993 by Lawrence Grown, and began as a restoration company for antique lighting fixtures. In time, Lawrence and his wife, Christa Rybczynski, who both hold degrees in Architecture, began using their knowledge of lighting and architectural history to create new designs, inspired and informed by Arts Nouveau and Craftsman aesthetics. Metro takes inspiration for its name from the work of early Modernist architect Hector Guimard, designer of the famous Paris Metro stations.

A Growing Business

Metro quickly outgrew its humble garage beginnings and its first two commercial storefronts. Now in its fourth location, our showroom at 2121 San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley is 3200 square feet, large enough to comfortably showcase most of our line. The adjacent workshop occupies an additional 2500 square feet, allowing for close interaction between sales and manufacturing staff.

Our Product Line

Metro Lighting & Crafts features an extensive array of both original and historically rooted designs. Custom work is also available.
